TOBAGO: Luring superyachts to new marina sites

The Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) in collaboration with the state-owned National Infrastructure Development Co Ltd (NIDCO) is proposing the construction of a marina with superyacht berths in Canoe Bay, Friendship Estate.

The concept masterplan allows for a marina of over 150 slips (144 x 20m/66ft; 6 x 30m/98ft; 6 x 40-50m/131-164ft) as well as a 50m/164ft slip for a Coast Guard vessel. There is also space to the east of the proposed marina basin for a further 90 slips.
Extensive features and facilities are planned. Nearly 11ha (27 acres) would be devoted to boat storage and repair; 8.5ha (21 acres) for a waterpark; 3.2ha (8 acres) as a saltwater pond ‘coral garden’ reserve; and 10.4ha (26 acres) of reclaimed land for two- and three-storey villas and condominiums, and luxury beach house properties.
Additional facilities include a capitainerie; 50/60 room hotel; Coast Guard support building; workshops and offices; a gourmet restaurant; snack food outlets and bars.
An environmental impact assessment will be sought.
