AUSTRALIA: Alder expands reach in Whitsundays
Alder Developments continues to diversify and expand its operations throughout North Queensland with the purchase of Bowen Marina.
Located at the end of Henry Darwen Memorial Drive, the marina consists of two main buildings and 22 berths for vessels of 10 to 20m requiring medium and long term berthing.
Alder Developments general manager, Greg Tupicoff, says the acquisition of the marina further cements the company’s commitment to investing in the Whitsunday region. “The Bowen Marina is regarded as one of the safest ports in Queensland, located in a prime vantage point on the fringe of the largest and best-known coral reefs in the world,” he says.
“With the transition to the new ownership we plan to utilise the experience of our Alder Development team to rejuvenate the marina while investigating the future potential of the facility in consultation with local government, state government and the community.”
The company is now seeking prospective tenants from marine-based enterprises through to marine tourism, with the aim of accommodating a range of tourism-related businesses such as fishing charters, jetski tours, commercial fishing operations, and land-based marine repair services such as sail makers, shipwrights, and marine motor and electrical repairs.
“We are even looking at how we can take advantage of the broader Bowen Harbour assets by getting involved in the master planning for the broader area,” Tupicoff adds. “We would love to see more diverse uses such as restaurants, micro breweries and similar tourism uses in the Bowen Harbour in the not too distant future.”
