AUSTRALIA: Anchors for Mackay
Mackay Marina Village in Queensland has secured a 4 Gold Anchor rating with the Marina Industries Association (MIA).
Beautiful and well-maintained, Mackay Marina is conveniently located 6km (3.7mi) from the centre of Mackay. It not only provides a vital anchorage for local commercial and recreational vessels but, as the gateway to playgrounds of far north Queensland and the Coral Sea, provides boaters with a great place to stop for maintenance and provisions as they make their way up the coast. It is also a popular port of entry for overseas cruising yachts.
With over 400 berths for all types of vessels ranging from 10 to 55m (33 to 180ft), the marina boasts a variety of marine businesses, hospitality venues and a Mantra hotel. Showing a strong commitment to the environment, Mackay Marina Village is an accredited International Clean Marina and Fish Friendly Marina.
“It’s great to have Mackay Marina Village join the Gold Anchor programme,” said MIA CEO Suzanne Davies. “It’s no easy feat to achieve a 4 Gold Anchor accreditation and demonstrates the team at Mackay’s commitment to providing quality facilities and services for both locals and those transiting through the marina.”
Marina manager Ben Anderson commented: “Attaining 4 Gold Anchors, as well as having been named Marina of the Year twice by the MIA, is a testament to our facilities, quality customer service and the hard work put in every day by our professional and expert marina and shipyard teams. We’re delighted to have been recognised at this level and look forward to continuing to provide an excellent marine experience for many years to come.”
