USA: Preliminary submissions for Seaport project
The Board of Port Commissioners for the Port of San Diego, California is reviewing a recent preliminary submission from 1HWY1 regarding the long-awaited Seaport San Diego project. Staff anticipate the review will be an ongoing process before a final project description is submitted.
The project, for the redevelopment of the Central Embarcadero, is a mixed-use development programme that includes five public access piers, several marinas, and docks and slips for day visitors. Around 14,000 feet (4,300m) of waterside dockage would be created.Over 70% of the space will be devoted to parks, open spaces and plazas, piers, walkways, beaches, nature trails, shared streets and public rooftop. Hotels, at various service levels and price points; an event centre; a Blue Tech Innovation Centre block with aquarium, office space and observation tower; fish processing plants; restaurants, retail, and more are included.
The project, which will cost several billion dollars, is backed in part by San Diego’s famous Jacobs family. 1HWY1 was selected by the Port of San Diego in November 2016 to redevelop the 70-acre (28-ha) site, 39 acres (15.8ha) of which is on land.
